******DO NOT PANIC. FIRST READ THIS******

WHO ARE WE AND WHY WE ARE HERE

We are a network of people committed to unconditional solidarity with those demonstrating at the Conservative Party HQ in Millbank on 10th November 2010.

This is the least we can do. The state and corporate media have already started a campaign of repression. We have experience of dealing with state repression with defence campaigns. From the Poll Tax Rioters to the Demonstrators against the Israeli Invasion of Gaza (Dec 08-Jan 09) and the EDO Decommissioners (Jan 09-May 2010) experience tells us you should be calm and careful what you say and do from now on.
Irrespective of whether you did anything you feel was criminal, the fact that you were at the Conservative HQ on the day in question means you will be treated as a criminal if the police can get away with it.

-ADVICE NOW-

1. WE WOULD HAVE TOLD YOU TO READ A POST ON THE FITWATCH BLOG.

WE CANNOT ANY MORE AS IT HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN

The move appears to have taken place after a blog posted on the website gave guidance to students who feared they might be arrested for their involvement in the occupation of the Millbank office complex, which houses the Tory party headquarters.

The Fitwatch blogpost, which last night had reappeared on several other websites, recommended that students “get rid” of clothes they wore at the demonstration and change their appearance.

“Perhaps now is a good time for a makeover,” said the post. “Get a haircut and colour, grow a beard, wear glasses. It isn’t a guarantee, but may help throw them off the scent.”

The guidance ranged from suggesting that students contact a lawyer or stay away from demonstrations for a while, to advising them to get rid of clothes they were wearing at the protests, as well as spray cans and “dodgy texts/photos on your phone”.

The post added: “The police often use the psychological pressure of knowing they have your picture to persuade you to ‘come forward’. Unless you have a very pressing reason to do otherwise, let them come and find you, if they know who you are.”

2. DO NOT say anything to anyone

You have the right to silence and the right not to incriminate yourself. So we recommend you do NOT. SAY NOTHING TO NO-ONE ONLINE OR OFFLINE, ON THE PHONE OR IN PERSON about the events. These are valuable resources for the Police to find you via internet trawling and phone tapping in order to pin a prosecution on you.

DO NOT SAY ANYTHING TO THE POLICE even if they say “it is in your best interests”. The Police are the arm of the State and a bureaucratic military organisation NEVER to be trusted. Even if the Police put your name and photo in the newspaper, arrest you, take your photo request a solicitor (see Christian Khan below) and demand your Solicitor advises you to say nothing. That way you can say the Solicitor advised you to say nothing in the event the State tries to infer guilt from the fact you said nothing!

Even if they have your picture, and say you committed an offence it does not mean you committed THAT offence or any offence at all. A picture of you holding an item that could cause damage to property does not amount to evidence of you causing damage with that item. So on these matters, like everything else, SAY NOTHING!

3. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL IN ATTENDING FUTURE DEMOS considering what has happened.

4. KEEP A SOLICITORS NAME AND EMERGENCY NUMBER ON YOU AT ALL TIMES

We personally recommend anyone that MAY need a solicitor to opt for Christian Khan Solicitors 020 7631 9500 (ask for Kat Craig) & on EMERGENCY 24 HOURS 07659105246 or Hodge Jones & Allen Solicitors (ask from Raj) on 08004370080 or 07659111192.

5. DO STAY WITH FRIENDS UNASSOCIATED WITH THE DEMO OR CAMPAIGN SO YOU ARE NOT ISOLATED IF ARRESTED

6. IF THE NEWSPAPERS NAME AND DEFAME YOU DO PURSUE A NO-WIN NO-FEE CLAIM AGAINST THEM FOR DEFAMATION (LIBEL)

Already people are pursuing the Torygraph and the Daily Wail for defamation. We recommend Carter Ruck for making claims.

7. WE ARE HERE TO HELP BUT ONLY CONTACT US AFTER CREATING A NEW EMAIL ADDRESS WITH A DIFFERENT NAME AND FACEBOOK

The mere fact that we are advertising ourselves as a place to get help means that the Police will attempt to gain access to our accounts to identify people to pin prosecutions upon.

If you want to contact us,

(i) go to a location unrelated to you – i.e. unrelated to your home, work, educational establishment or family/friends.

(ii) use private browsing (so no cookies are left)

(iii) create a new email address, and facebook

(iv) then contact us

8. KEEP LOOKING AT THIS WEBSITE

In the coming weeks we will provide more information but sign up to keep updated.
If you have any questions and would like ANY HELP please contact us. If there is anything you would like to talk about in person please arrange to meet.
We will be raising funds and collating evidence for defence cases and will be in touch with further information in the coming weeks.

Stay in Touch

  1. a concerned legal advisor says:

Below there are some other important things not mentioned by this blog, that you should do if you believe you are going to be a target of the investigation into the demonstration on November 10th:

Dispose of all items of clothing and recognisable jewellery etc. that you wore on the demonstration – do not throw these away near your house or anywhere associated with you.

Consider changing your appearance, cut your hair / shave / grow a beard etc.

Change your profile name on facebook to something different, and remove any association with your university or college pages or groups and networks.

Delete any facebook photos of yourself and ask all friends
(face to face NOT by email or text) to untag or delete any photos of you.
NOT JUST PHOTOS FROM THE DEMO, but any general photos that show your face – these photos can help people find out more info about you, who you know and where to find you.

Change your mobile phone number. If you cannot cancel a contract, dispose of the chip and phone –
If you had your phone with you on November 10th, DO NOT keep this phone with you OR in your house – it can be used to prove your location at a specific time during the demo.

Keep NO record of anything that links you to the protest ANYWHERE!!

Build an alibi to show you weren’t at the protest, or at least to prove you didn’t commit a crime.

These things may seem a bit over the top, but these precautionary measures are very important if you wish to avoid being framed by the authorities and used as an example.
Simply hoping you do not get questioned, and then saying NO COMMENT when you do, may not be enough!!!
BUT REMEMBER- MAKE SURE YOU SAY NOTHING TO ANYONE, WHATEVER YOU DO!!!

that’s really dumb saying the police are a beuratic miliitant organisation NEVER to be trusted.

i was at the.demo fighting for the cause and by chance my footage was used on national television as the only material in and on the building, so i guess you have me to blame to a large extent, as a young campaigner for student rights.

    http://www.ChangeTheFuture.co.uk

The truth is, if youre proud, you shouldnt jave anything to hide. if you were a fucking irresponsible fool and threw a fire extinguisher 100 metres onto a crowd of students, you cant pretend youre innocent v(though the daily mail have phoned me 4 times today, DESPERATE to.see the raw uncut footage of the dropping and i told them to focus on the real news like ch4 and i wasnt going to assist a conviction for attempted murder for that)

I was just as proud of the police as the students that day. the students made it fucking personal and were ridiculously unfair to the police (not so much the riot police; that was a more even fight) and could easily have blinded them.

if you think that initself is something to be proud of, you need to get a life and some humanity.

      Luke,
for someone who is apparently carrying out some form of social documentary research, you have clearly not taken into account the important ethical considerations that any researcher would know they should.

The dropping of the Fire extinguisher is inexcusable.

So is the incrimination of all the other people in your film, who are in the building, not attacking police, but possibly causing damage to property or ‘aggravated’ trespass – these people are actually going to face the charge of Violent Disorder, not trespass, or criminal damage and will be made examples of by the state, just as the young Gaza protestors were in 2009, given 2 – 3 year prison sentences, one for throwing a plastic water bottle.

I hope that in the future you consider your access to specific situations with more respect. If you were a member of the Police FIT team, I would fully understand, as it would be your job to attempt to build criminal cases against people. However your not.. or are you????

  4. Michael says:

Now I’m sure alot of people are going to be unhappy with Luke and his footage release for getting them arrested.

    I went to Luke’s site www,changethefuture.co.uk and was interested to see he confessed to criminal activity himself. Indeed he stated the following;
Me stuff’s all over the telly!
    So that’s good.

“I’ve just finished my own cut of the Millbank student protest. I would’ve finished it earlier, but I was frantically uploading stuff to Ch4, just a few minutes before the story aired on telly. Madness. Really need to get our own broadband soon and stop nicking the open Wifi from the house opposite :/”

Now you are right Luke, you are aware you have stolen something and admitted so. The usage of someone elses Broadband service is indeed theft and is charged under the 1968 Theft Act.

    One such example is here;

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/hereford/worcs/6565079.stm

I wonder which of the student’s in the film will be the first to inform our trusted Old Bill of Luke’s illegal activities? Maybe they post details here?
